Sitia Port sits on the north-eastern coast of Crete, with 80 berths in the principal port of the easternmost Cretan region. Sitia is the natural Cretan eastern base — distinct from the resort west (Chania) and central commerce (Heraklion) — with the iconic Vai palm forest (the largest natural palm forest of Europe, dating from antiquity), the Toplou Monastery (the historic 15th-century fortified monastery with its Cretan resistance heritage) and the Minoan archaeological sites of Zakros (the easternmost Minoan palace) and Kato Zakros all within tender or short-trip range.
The eastern Cretan pantry is the most prized in Crete. Sitia PDO olive oil — the eastern Cretan PDO from the Sitia region, one of Greece's most prestigious extra virgin appellations (alongside Kolymvari PDO of the west, the Sitia PDO is the standard of eastern Cretan olive oil, produced by the Toplou Monastery and the regional cooperatives). Cretan wines — Mantilaria reds, Vidiano whites (the indigenous Cretan white grape with global recognition), Liatiko (the indigenous eastern Cretan red grape, produced almost exclusively in the Sitia and Lasithi regions). Cretan cheeses (graviera Kritis PDO, mizithra). Antikristo and gamopilafo Cretan tradition. Tsikoudia / raki. Eastern Cretan seafood. The small Sitia restaurant economy supports authentic eastern Cretan cuisine without the resort polish of Chania or Rethymno.
Yachting season runs May through October. Sitia suppliers handle same-day on fresh items and 24 to 48 hours on full provisioning, with the most distinctive eastern Cretan supplier network on the island.
