Port-Fréjus is the modern pleasure marina of Fréjus, opposite Saint-Raphaël on the Bay of Fréjus, with 50 superyacht berths in a planned canal-marina basin developed in the 1980s. Fréjus itself is one of the oldest cities of Provence — founded by Julius Caesar in 49 BC as Forum Julii, with substantial Roman archaeological remains (amphitheatre, aqueduct, baths) — and provides cultural depth to the otherwise polished marina.
The pantry is Provençal. Côtes de Provence rosé — the appellation's heartland is the inland hills behind Fréjus (Domaines Ott, Château de Saint-Martin, the historic estates). Bandol AOC reds from the Mourvèdre vineyards 70 km west. AOP Nice olive oil and Var olive oils (the inland villages of Tourrettes and Bagnols-en-Forêt have small mills). Provençal specialties: tapenade, anchoïade, daube provençale, ratatouille, panisses, socca. Fresh fish from Saint-Laurent-du-Var auction and local boats. Specialty providers handle full Provençal catering and serve the active second-home economy of the area.
Yachting season runs April through October with peaks during Cannes Festival and August. Port-Fréjus suppliers handle same-day on fresh items and 24 to 48 hours on full provisioning.
